Based on their successful USA Today column Bob Beckel, a liberal Democratic strategist, and Cal Thomas, a conservative columnist, take on the contentious issues that divide America along partisan lines, and find areas where they agree! Their latest book, Common Ground: How to Stop the Partisan War That is Destroying America, was released in October and is a discussion on how liberals and conservatives can work together to get the United States back on track.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary, humorist Dave Barry has written many best sellers, including Dave Barry Talks Back, Dave Barry is from Mars and Venus, and Dave Barry's Money Secrets. His witty, critically acclaimed weekly column was a staple in several hundred newspapers nationwide for over 15 years. In the style that is his trademark, Barry speaks about the absurdities of the everyday life and his droll commentary about politics and trivial idiosyncrasies are both clever and hilarious.

Lisa Williams is a self-described medium and clairvoyant starring in a show on Lifetime called Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead. The show follows Williams on a typical day, as she allegedly communicates with the dead, investigates haunted houses, and conducts other spirit-seeking activities. She claims she has spoken to Bob Hope, Princess Diana, Natalie Wood, Marilyn Monroe and Ray Charles after they died. Her show on Lifetime is now in its second season, and is also seen in United Kingdom on three different networks. Williams is the granddaughter of Frances Glazebrook, a well known British woman who also claimed to be a medium.

Archaeology continues to be a powerful way to re-visit Jamestown, the first permanent colony of the English outside the British Isles and the birthplace of modern America. For over two centuries the heart of the original town, 1607-1624 James Fort, was thought lost to river erosion. Digging over the past 15 years has proven the erosion story unfounded, as almost the entire Fort site has been uncovered on dry land. This lecture examines the history, the process and the major finds of a rediscovered Jamestown and new insights into the events and people who struggled to establish what have become many of the basic traditions that make up American society.

Oysters and the reefs that they created were central to the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay prior to the early 19th century. Dr. Harding will discuss information contained within 400 year old oyster shells recovered by archaeologists from a James Fort well describing ecological and environmental conditions in the James River estuary during the early years of Jamestown.

The Popham Colony was the first organized attempt to establish an English colony on the shores of what we now know as New England. It was planted at the mouth of the Kennebec River in the summer of 1607 and lasted for little over a year until it was abandoned in the fall 1608. Popham was the first claim of possession of what was then called Northern Virginia by the English, and later known as 'New' England at the time the Pilgrims established the first permanent settlement in Massachusetts Bay thirteen years later. Archaeological investigations have relocated the remains of Fort St. George, the principal installation of the Popham Colony, and restored it to its significant place in history.
