Festivities begin with the Grand Illumination of the Downtown Norfolk and Olde Towne Portsmouth skylines, when 100,000 voices along the Grand Illumination Parade Route will take part in a community countdown. The skylines stretch nearly 20 miles to light up our favorite holidays - Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year's Eve. An Occasion for the Arts has been held the first Sunday in October for 40 years in beautiful Williamsburg, Virginia. On Saturday night, September 20th, make sure to take a trip to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and attend the NAS Oceana Air Show Beach Blast at the 31st Street Park next to the Hilton hotel. The event will begin with a free concert. Made up of some of the Navy's most versatile musicians, their performance presents a diverse, high energy show that will entertain guest of all ages. When the sun sets, there will be a Super Hornet afterburner flyover to kick-off the official portion of the show, immediately followed by team parachute jumps onto the beach. Once the jump teams have been presented to the crowd, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will take the stage to introduce the 2008 Blue Angel team. The Four Star Edition will then provide music and entertainment until the event's conclusion. The 7th Annual PANorama Caribbean Music Fest celebrates the music and culture of the Caribbean. And if it's Caribbean, it's probably rooted in the steel band! Tickets are now on sale for the 16th Annual Kiwanis Harbor Party and Seafood Feast. Proceeds from the Harbor Party will benefit local children's and family charities. More than $500,000 has been raised since 1993. The Kiwanis Harbor Party and Seafood Feast features all-you-can-eat crab cakes, fried fish, clams, oysters, scallops and famous Harbor Party Clam Chowder. Beer and wine will also be served. As always, this event will be attended by many of the region's business and political leaders as well as candidates running for office in November's election. Once again, the Kiwanis Silent Auction will feature an array of exciting items up for bid. RBC Centura and the Kiwanis Club of Norfolk are the presenting sponsors.
