The Virginia Choral Society, under the direction of James Powers will conclude its 79th Concert Season with a concert of Baroque music. This concert will present music from five countries, Poland, France, Germany, Italy and England, and music by Bach, H?ndel, Hasse, Pachelbel, Buxtehude, Gorzycki, Porpora, Caldara, Charpentier, and Purcell. There will be music instantly recognized as treasures of the Baroque by Bach, Handel, and Purcell. But there will be lesser known gems by Buxtehude, Pachelbel, Hasse, Gorczycki, Porpora, Caldara, and Charpentier as well. Baroque music expresses order, the fundamental order of the universe. Yet it is always lively and tuneful. Follow the development of music, from the earliest times to the present day, with baroque music set in historical context.
