An evening fantastique. Berlioz's symphony soars with the love-struck passions of a young musician and takes you on a musical psychedelic trip. The Romanticism keeps on with Saint Saens' melodically inventive violin concerto performed by the talented, young and beautiful femme violinist Jennifer Koh. Contemporary Virginia composer Mason Bates takes us where the personal expression of 19th century Romanticism has led us in the 21st Century with his Rusty Air in Carolina and its recollection of warm, Southern nights abuzz with the sounds of cicadas and katydids.
